“If You Saw A Heat Wave, Would You Wave Back?”

There has been a lot of discussion in the Australian media lately about heat waves.

So what is the problem?
Besides being really draining and uncomfortable heat waves are a major source of harm to people, not just because of bush fires, but as events that lead to illness, hospitalisations and sometimes death!

The Bureau of Meteorology set up the Heatwave Service to inform and alert us to the danger that will be an on-going threat.

“In the last 200 years, severe and extreme heatwaves have taken more lives than any other natural hazard in Australia. For example, during the 2009 Victorian bushfires, 173 people perished as a direct result of the fires; however 374 people lost their lives in the heatwave that occurred before the bushfires.”

The Climate Council has useful tips on how to deal with heatwaves and their effects, in their Be Prepared and Stay Safe guide. Their take home messages are:

  • Take care of yourself
  • Stay hydrated
  • Stay cool
  • Avoid the sun
  • Keep in touch with family, friends and neighbours
  • Stay informed
  • Seek medical advice if you feel unwell

We think they should add WrapMeCool® to their list.

Invest in a WrapMeCool for yourself and your loved ones — it will definitely help you stay cool and avoid becoming over-heated.
